A new beginning

Posted in NatWest CricketForce 2010

This is the first time Gedling Colliery Cricket Club have been involved in the NatWest CricketForce initiative and it has been a steep but enjoyable learning curve so far.

Year on year we have working parties and prepare the ground and pavilion for the season, but now with the support of NatWest CricketForce we are able not just to prepare for this season but really make a difference for many years to come.

There is a great chance to have all of the projects that the club have been working on in the short and long term, planned and started for the NatWest CricketForce weekend in March.

Our projects include a patio, new kitchen, dressing rooms and showers, disabled toilet, new roof, practise areas and the field of play that would have taken years to complete.

Having had our initial very enthusiastic meeting, led by Dave Leighton from the ECB and our own chairman Mick Fox, we invited volunteers to step forward.

As we began our countdown, we looked for volunteers from members, friends, family and the community and many have stepped forward, either project managing, leading key activities, or volunteering on the day.

We are now in the final stages of identifying all the resources, materials, people, suppliers and timings of all the activities to make sure the weekend is a success.
There are times we feel we have been too ambitious but realise it doesn’t all have to be completed in one weekend.

Gedling Colliery CC

Work has already begun at Gedling Colliery which is one of the national showcase clubs for NatWest CricketForce

We have support from the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and are visiting a club that has already been through this process in Leicestershire to learn more about how to make it a success.

All in all, planning is going well. We are still contacting and following up suppliers for materials and work has started at the ground, digging trenches, clearing slabs of concrete...

This is the biggest volunteering event in sport in 2010 and we are so pleased to be part of it. If you can help us in anyway let us know.
