It’s all kicking off!

Posted in NatWest CricketForce 2009

Well, after many months of toil, navigating more hurdles then Red Rum and cutting through more red tape than HRH The Queen on official opening duties, we finally got the green light to begin the works on the highly anticipated new pavilion at Sacriston.

At this stage I would like to commend both Chester-le-Street District Council and Durham County Council for dealing with the issues I presented them in a pragmatic and positive manner – they were great. Also, a huge thanks to the project team who pulled out all of the stops to ensure I had all of the required information and answers at exactly the right time.

Straight into action and the foundations were started on Monday March 16 ready for the concrete to be poured on Friday March 20. The bricklayer will start laying the trench blocks soon after with the intention of completion early to mid next week. After that the concrete beams will be laid, blocked up and a concrete screed applied.

The timber has been ordered and the manufacture of the panels has begun. Roof trusses have been ordered and will be ready for delivery in 7 – 10 days.

It is the intention to start erecting the new pavilion as soon as the concrete base is finished, hopefully Monday March 31, which will give us a good chance of having the shell of the building up in time for NatWest CricketForce weekend.

How far we actually get, only time will tell, but we have achieved so much in such a short space of time and to get this far has been nothing short of miraculous. Everyone’s fingers are crossed for a little bit of good weather, some good fortune and we’re hopeful we will be somewhere near on the NatWest CricketForce Weekend.

Other projects are also gathering pace. The patio is dug up and the new block paving will be laid starting Friday March 20. We’ve secured all of the hedgerow and trees to complete the landscaping project. We’ve recycled some paving slabs from the old patio to create the hard standing area next to the new nets and a new path at the side of the club.

The projects all have project leaders and we are now actively seeking the required number of people for each strand of work. Work is ongoing in regards to our advertising campaign and other essential aspects such as food and entertainment…….

It’s getting very exciting now, but there’s no time to stand around admiring our handy work to date – still a long, long way to go. Gotta dash…………….
