Pride of Lancashire

Posted in Disability Cricket

Lancashire won the County Championship, our Lancashire softball disability squad won the National Final last Sunday and at the time of writing this blog, I am sat in a lonely stand at Derbyshire CCC watching our Hardball Disability Squad play Cheshire in the Final. No pressure on the boys at all.

Watching the game, thinking back to where the disabilities game was a number of years ago and the massive strides made at county level and internationally, my mind has switched to the England Deaf squad which has prompted this blog.

The England Deaf Squad is now in a new phase as we await confirmation of our next international competition.

Developments have taken place behind the scenes with the 'Elite Group' and 'Lions Group' due to be named for the next 12 months. Each Group will be reviewed annually. This gives us clarity on who we have to work with, player roles etc.

Each player has signed up to a Player Commitment Document which sets out the commitment required for the next 12 months. Each player will undergo a player development review, which is a one-to-one recorded discussion, during the year prior to a decision being made for the following year's named group.

Our winter training schedule has now been confirmed where we will bring the group together once a month, other than December, between now and March.

Our tour to Devon saw a win in the Twenty20, a loss in the one-day game - we dominated against a strong side for most of it and we had a few key players missing - and a washout in the final one-day game.

It's the Hardball County Final today, Accrington Stanley tomorrow and Keighley Rugby League on Sunday. I could watch Wigan v Saints but my girlfriend Lisa shouts too loud at the TV. She's a passionate Saints fan.

I just need the Lancs Hardball side to get the weekend off to a good start.
