Roll on Saturday

Posted in England Women

It has been great to catch up with all my team-mates after five months apart and we now have been together as a squad for almost two weeks in Australia as we finalise our preparations for the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Fortunately the weather has allowed us to have some really good practice sessions on turf wickets and things are beginning to come together.

We were all really disappointed to lose the practice game against Australia on Monday having dominated most of the match.

Winning matches when we haven’t been playing at our best is something that we have prided ourselves upon recently, so it was disappointing to suffer a late-order batting collapse which led to a 25-run defeat.

However, it was only a practice match and we will be keen to learn from our experiences.

We moved into the tournament hotel, based in the centre of Sydney, last night. Having lived in Sydney for the past few months, where I have been playing grade cricket, it is quite strange staying in a hotel in the centre of the city, although I enjoy the touring experience.

Quite a few of my team-mates have already been asking for my help and advice on which restaurants they should go to and which shops are the best to visit during our time off.

Today we have been involved in press conferences with the media, filmed our introductions for television, signed bats which are given to ICC sponsors and had an education briefing on how to protect ourselves from corruption by the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit team.

This is something that is very different to anything we have experienced before and gives us a real sense that this tournament is going to be bigger than anything we have ever seen before and we are all delighted that Sky Sports will be showing some of our matches in England.

Our focus is now just on our opening game against Sri Lanka. It may be a cliché but we do want to take every game at a time and a win on Saturday would be a great way to start.
