Searching for the perfect game

Our form in this World Cup has been a bit annoying. We have won games when we seemed dead and buried and lost matches we should have won.

We have played well in stages. In some games we have started well and then tailed off. In others we have made a good total then bowled badly.

The game with West Indies was another where we had our backs against the wall. We were a few runs short with the bat but our bowlers managed to pull us through.

It was pretty hard to judge what a good total would be but I thought 250 would be competitive. Luke Wright played really well to get us close to that.

It was easier to bat against the seam bowlers than it was against the spinners. We made a good start but knew the slow bowlers would be able to pull it back for them.

If Chris Gayle batted another five overs he would have taken the game completely away from us. James Tredwell getting him out was crucial to us winning.

When we had them 150 for six I was confident we'd win but they played well. Andre Russell came in and hit a few big sixes. His previous highest one-day score was three.

We really had to dig deep and you could see how much it meant to us at the end. To win such an important game when we looked down and out showed real character and team spirit.

I am pleased with how I am batting at the moment but I won't rest on my laurels. I will continue to work hard on my game

We know that we can perform well but we need to piece together 100 overs of good cricket. We must do that in our quarter-final against Sri Lanka on Saturday. They are a very good team, especially in their own conditions.

Playing at home can be a catch-22 though. There are advantages and disadvantages. They will be going into the match as favourites so perhaps the pressure will be on them.

We are taking each game as it comes but you can't escape the fact we are three matches away from being world champions. Whoever wins it will have to win three matches in a row - that could be us.

We trained at the stadium in Colombo for the first time on Tuesday. The ground has been refurbished and it looks really good. I haven't played against Sri Lanka before so I am looking forward to that.

I felt good with the bat against West Indies. I had a few deliveries early on that I could put away and we were going really well before I got out.

It's nice to do well, especially when you contribute to a victory. That's why you work hard on your game and try to improve. I won't be resting on my laurels though. I prefer to look to the future.
