Seeing the sights

Posted in England Women

Today was our first excursion day where we visited various attractions around Cape Town.

We had a 30 minute drive to our first destination, Table Mountain, and to pass the time we listened to our specially made tour CD.

Driving to the mountain the views were beautiful but once in the cable car, the views were even better. However, the cable car travelled so fast it only took seven minutes to get to the top.

On the way up both Aylish and Sophie were fretting as the floor rotated which many of us found very funny.

At the top of Table Mountain we had time to wander around and absorb the spectacular views of Devil’s Peak, Lion’s Head and Robben Island. Even though we were so high, the weather was still amazing.

After Table Mountain we went on a boat trip from Hout Bay to Seal Island. When we arrived we saw masses of seals huddled together and others leaping around in the water.

We then headed to Cape Point where we saw baboons and had the chance to climb right up to the top of Cape Town - it was the most tiring walk I have ever completed in my life, it was absolutely exhausting.

After the strenuous walk we all welcomed the relaxing views at the most South Westerly point of Africa - Cape of Good Hope.

To finish the day we went to Boulders Beach where we saw the penguin colonies. The penguins were very cute and we discovered that Kate, one of our coaches, had a fantastic knowledge of wildlife.

This trip has provided me with so many experiences that I had only ever dreamed about.

It was a long day but the sights and experiences were energising and exhilarating and we are all ready for a good night’s sleep before our second match.
