Something for the community

Kidderminster Victoria Cricket Club is planning its biggest ever NatWest CricketForce weekend.

It is being co-ordinated by a sub-committee of senior and junior section members and a long list of jobs has been drawn up to ensure the club's facilities are in tip top condition for the start of the season.

These include repairs and the painting of the pavilion, rebuilding two sightscreens and refurbishing two others, gardening (including creating a new shrub border), painting numerous benches, rolling and mending holes in netting on outdoor nets and finally a general tidy up and clean.

Most of the equipment needed is being loaned to the club by Express Tool Hire, of Kidderminster, and Jewsons are sponsoring a large amount of wood, mainly for the sightscreens, with a healthy discount. It is hoped we can attract discounts from other suppliers as well.

Senior and junior members along with their families are being asked to provide the manpower and a skills audit has been sent out. Painter and decorator Ian Campbell has volunteered to be painting supervisor and local builder Martin Roberts has also offered to lend a hand.

The club wants to make the event a social occasion bringing together life members, seniors and juniors and their families.

The club want to make it a community event - the Foresters charity may help with finance and/or volunteers and it is hoped help will come from the Kidderminster Lions Football Club, which uses the ground in the off-season.

There will be free all-day BBQs on the Saturday and Sunday to ensure all those helping are well fed. Older teenagers will run Kwik cricket games for the younger children.
