Summer, Lord's, first npower Test...bound to rain

The beginning of summer has been the stuff of dreams - the sun has shone without prejudice, the beaches have been full, the barbecues have been fired up and the tans are a healthy bronze.

There are of course the lobster exceptions, but it’s England after all and the sun arrived with the impact of an Ikea sale – stampede central.

Now of course, the international cricket season has started, and Mother Cricket has been powerless in the face of this island’s sadistic pleasures. Grey London skies, a wet Lord’s outfield, and a delayed start. Wouldn’t be summer without it!

However, despite this inconspicuous start there is plenty of optimism around the England camp at the moment. The comeback in New Zealand, coupled with a quite outstanding one-day series victory in Sri Lanka, has provided signs that this developing side are firmly on the right track.

Indeed, those were the thoughts echoed by Michael Vaughan and Peter Moores during the build up to the first npower Test at Lord’s this week. They were both keen to stress that aggressive, positive and dynamic cricket was the way forward. New Zealand, if all goes to plan, could be in for a tough month. You can watch the previews on ECBtv right now.

Furthermore, the new TwelfthMan section will take you to the heart of the England team, and we’ll have lots of exclusive footage for you as the season kicks in. Keep your eye out for Team Analyst Mark Garraway launching himself out of a plane, Sidebottom roaring in against the backroom staff, as well as intimate one-to-one interviews revealing the person behind the player.

Couple all that with match reports, features, interviews and press conferences, and it’s clear that the only place to be for online video is ECBtv. Hopefully you’ll enjoy the content this summer.

Finally, as the rain trickles down the Investec Media Centre, and the npower girls go past with their brollies, the buzz still gently strolls around this beautiful cricket ground. Many say that the road to the Ashes starts here, but I feel it began during the tough winter just passed, and that with any luck it’s time to move up the gears.
