The captain's on deck

Andrew Strauss is coming. What? Andrew Strauss is coming! And Charlotte Edwards too.

So that's the captain of both the England men and women coming to our place. Every day I think it can't get any better and it does.

I'm sitting in my chair typing this doing a little jig.

There's more...

Instead of the rickety old scorebox that we have, we are rewarding our new ground with some pretty whizzo equipment, which it deserves.

The Foundation for Sport and Arts gave us money for a new scorebox that is controlled from the comfort of the pavilion. That was all very well, but not much good if we didn't have electricity to run it.

Raj Kannabar (Neal's Dad) contacted a friend who has a building company called Bugler to ask if he could help and his friend kindly offered to get diggers in for us to dig the trench for the cable.

That was amazing news, but still meant we had to find money for the cable...and that came to just under £1,550.

There was mad scrambling on the internet to look for any deals until the company got back to Raj and said they would do the whole thing - digging the hole, supplying and laying the cable as well as the manpower involved.

This is so unbelievably generous. The groundwork will be starting next Thursday. Peggy will be relieved as she offered to help dig the trench.

We can't thank them enough, and thanks to Raj.

We would like to thank the following companies: Foundation for Sports and Arts, Bowdry, Hippobag, Harrow Heritage Trust, GFS Car Parts, Lucozade, Dulux Decorator Centres and Bugler.
