The Field of Dreams ('they will come”) Project

Posted in NatWest CricketForce 2009

Things are moving along nicely at Sacriston Colliery Cricket Club after recently being selected to be a showcase club for NatWest CricketForce 2009.

Obviously, we were over the moon to be chosen as one of five showcase clubs across the whole country and after it had all sunk in; we realized we had an awful lot of work to do.

The feedback from the recent CricketForce presentation held in the club has been excellent and the interest is growing. People are keen to get started and we have people from all building trades itching with tools in hand!

Currently we are finalising plans for our new pavilion that will be the centre piece of our extensive and challenging project range. For those who know Sacriston, you will understand why a new changing facility was of paramount importance when we set off on this journey.

Not only is the old pavilion old and dilapidated, it does not allow us to expand and be even more inclusive.

As the timescale for planning permission is 8- 2 weeks, we are working very hard to get these plans signed off and submitted asap. Once the plans are submitted we will get the design out to tender to three reputable companies (a requirement of the 30k Youth Development Fund grant we have received).

We also are working with the utility companies to ensure services to the site can be established and how to get the ground prepared for the new building.

We have made contact with the Coalfields Regeneration Board (who attended the showcase presentation) and are working with them, looking at potential funding.

We have made contact with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (who attended the showcase presentation) in relation to our landscaping project.

We are awaiting movement on when we can install the new carpet.

We've set up a dedicated ‘Sacriston Showcase Club’ Facebook site.

The place is buzzing and we’re all pulling together as a team which is a great side effect of such a people focused initiative, although I have started to notice the odd grey hair creeping in!
