Three for the future
Posted in ECB ACO
I am in my room at the Barnsdale Lodge Hotel in Oakham, about to go for dinner after the first day of the MCC Spirit of Cricket Under 13 National Club Championship.
I am here as this was identified as a tournament to target the use of young officials.
Here with me for the two days are three young umpires - Chris Fortune from Bristol, Andrew Dowsett from Kent and Ethan Harvey from Southampton. They were among a few of our top young officials who I contacted to do these finals because they are very good young umpires.
I feel that this could be a tournament that yields great opportunities for our young officials to learn and develop and this is a major part of my role as Young Officials Development Officer. This is something that I also said in an interview with ECBtv.
I hope the guys I have brought here enjoy the experience and take something new from it and hopefully I can create more opportunities for more young upcoming officials in the future.
Away from this I also made my Lord's debut in the annual ECB v MCC staff game on the Nursery Ground. I opened the bowling and took two wickets but got a duck when batting. These things can’t be helped.
