World Cup preparations already underway

Posted in England Women

It might be two years until the Women's World Cup in India but that hasn't stopped us from developing our vision for the tournament.

The time between now and the start of the competition will go really quickly and we want to make sure we don't leave any stone unturned.

It's important to be as prepared as possible. Things might go differently on the day but you must do all the planning you possibly can.

Watching the World Cup on TV has given us some ideas on how we want to play out there.

I haven't been too surprised by what I've seen as we have played in India recently, but it was interesting to see how the wickets played.

From seeing the games we know there is a fantastic wicket at Bangalore and that Chennai is likely to take spin early on.

We won't change our plans based on what we've seen on the television, but it might give us a few pointers - like what line our spinners might bowl.

It has been two months since we came back from our winter tour of Australia.

Although we lost the Ashes Test and one-day series, I took plenty of positives from the trip, especially how we played in the Twenty20 series which we won 4-1.

I have met with the players and support staff to review the tour. It was a chance to outline our World Cup vision too.

When I spoke to the players we set some short-term goals for the summer when we host Australia, New Zealand and India in a quad series.

As part of our integrated approach I feel it's important to involve the support staff. We have some young, world-class professionals who really know their stuff. I think very highly of all of them.

At the same time, is there anything we can do to make their job easier? We will have a better chance of retaing the World Cup if everyone is performing to the best of their ability, not just the players.
