Coaching cricket: children (6-13)

Coaching children’s cricket is an enormously rewarding role within the coaching pathway. Players need expertise, support and passion at every level of their development; the courses and workshops found here are designed with players' needs at their core.

To become a qualified cricket coach, you will first need to achieve certification at UKCC level 2.

1. ECB certificate in coaching children’s cricket

This course is designed to help to develop your confidence and equip you with the knowledge, understanding and applied skills to lead coaching sessions for children and create safe, fun, player-centred coaching environments.

Who should attend?

For coaches who are going to predominantly coach children from six to 13 years. 

Commitment

  • 8 x three-hour modules
  • e-learning
  • six sessions of supported practice - usually in your own club coaching environment

Pre-requisites for certification

18 years of age (learning programme and assessment can be completed at 17)

  • Emergency Aid certificate
  • Safeguarding Young Cricketers certificate
  • Disclosure and Barring Service check

2. Coaching children’s cricket CPD

Stage and age appropriate CPD workshops that will develop your knowledge, understanding and applied skills in this environment.

Who should attend?

For coaches working with children that hold the ECB certificate in coaching children’s cricket or equivalent qualification. 

Workshops

  • ECB game based learning for children will explore how coaches can design enjoyable, stimulating and appropriate scenarios that replicate the actual game.
  • ECB creating the learning climate for children considers the coach’s role in creating an environment that allows players to learn by solving problems and self-discovery.
  • ECB skill development for children will allow coaches to create and share enjoyable group-based skill development practices for children within a club environment.

Each workshop is designed to run over one three-hour face-to-face module supported by e-learning.

3. ECB diploma in coaching children’s cricket

This course is designed to help to develop your confidence, help you reflect on your coaching practice and develop your expertise in coaching children’s cricket.

Who should attend?

For coaches working with children that hold the ECB certificate in coaching children’s cricket or equivalent qualification* and that have attended ECB game based learning for children, ECB skill development for children and ECB creating the learning climate for children.

*For example, ECB coach award (UKCC Level 2) or ECB level II.

Coaches will be expected to describe their experience of coaching children and share their implementation of the themes from the CPD workshops.

Commitment

  • 2 x six-hour and 1 x three-hour modules.
  • e-learning.
  • Assessed activities include player profiling and long-term planning, four sessions of applied coaching in your own coaching environment, a case study and a professional discussion.

Pre-requisites for certification

  • 18 years of age
  • Emergency first aid certificate
  • Safeguarding young cricketers certificate
  • Disclosure and barring service check through the ECB
