Coaching cricket: young people and adults (13 years+)

Coaching young people and adults’ cricket is an enormously rewarding role within the coaching pathway. Players need expertise, support and passion at every level of their development; the courses and workshops found here are designed with players' needs at their core.

To become a qualified cricket coach, you will first need to achieve certification at UKCC Level 2.

1. ECB certificate in coaching young people and adults’ cricket CPD

This course is designed to help to develop your confidence and equip you with the knowledge, understanding and applied skills to lead coaching sessions for young people and adults and create safe, enjoyable, stimulating player-centred coaching environments.

Who should attend?

For coaches who are going to predominantly coach young people and adults (13 years+).

Commitment

  • 8 x three-hour modules
  • e-learning
  • six sessions of supported practice (usually in your own club coaching environment)

Pre-requisites for certification

  • 18 years of age (learning programme and assessment can be completed at 17)
  • Emergency first aid certificate
  • Safeguarding young cricketers certificate
  • Disclosure and barring service check - through the ECB

2. Coaching young people and adults’ cricket CPD

Stage and age appropriate CPD workshops that will develop your knowledge, understanding and applied skills in this environment.

Who should attend?

For coaches working with children that hold the ECB certificate in coaching young people and adults’ cricket or equivalent qualification.

Workshops

  • ECB performance and video analysis will explore and apply performance and video analysis in practice and competitive situations.
  • ECB training interventions and methods will allow coaches to create and share inspiring group-based training interventions and methods for young people and adults within a club environment.
  • ECB coaching teams will explore in-season practices and the coach’s role before, during and after a game and the relationship with the captain.

Commitment

Each workshop is designed to run over one three-hour face-to-face module supported by e-learning.

3. ECB diploma in coaching young people and adults’ cricket

This course is designed to help to develop your confidence, help you reflect on your coaching practice and develop your expertise in coaching young people and adults’ cricket.

Who should attend?

For coaches working with children that hold ECB certificate in coaching young people and adults’ cricket or equivalent qualification* and that attended ECB coaching teams, ECB performance and video analysis and ECB training interventions and methods.

*For example ECB coach award (UKCC Level 2) or ECB level II.

Coaches will be expected to describe their experience of coaching young people and adults and share their implementation of the themes from the CPD workshops.

Commitment

  • 2 x six-hour and 1 x three-hour modules
  • e-learning
  • Assessed activities include player profiling and long-term planning, four sessions of applied coaching in your own coaching environment, a case study and a professional discussion.
