Eoin Morgan celebrates winning the Royal London One-Day Series against Pakistan

It's been a record-shattering Royal London One-Day Series for England.

Despite narrowly missing out on a series whitewash after Pakistan's win at Cardiff, Eoin Morgan's men ran out 4-1 winners in a series that will be long be remembered on these shores.

The undisputed highlight came at Trent Bridge where landmarks were lacerated and new benchmarks set. England set a new world record ODI score after finishing on 444-3 in their 50 overs, Alex Hales' 171 was the highest ever ODI score by an England batter and Jos Buttler bagged the fastest ever ODI 50 for his country.

Morgan has incredible strength in depth to call on with Jonny Bairstow, who is in supreme form this summer, not able to cement a place in the starting XI while gifted young players like Sam Billings and Ben Duckett can't force their way into the squad.

“I think this team is exceptional," Morgan said. "It’s certainly the best group of players I’ve ever played with. I think the levels we’ve shown over the last year-and-a-half, the records we’ve broken, I think there’s still more to come.

“One thing we’ve strived for throughout the year-and-a-half has been a level of consistency. In this series we’ve shown it every game - we’ve been ruthless in what we’ve done and the way we’ve gone about our business. I think that’s a great characteristic to show so early in our progress.”

Here is the England skipper on those three stand-out moments...

On scoring 444-3 at Trent Bridge

“Incredible scenes. It’s the second time we’ve posted over 400 and the fact we took it to 444 on the very last ball of the innings I thought was an incredible moment.

“It’s a very exciting, talented group and it probably won’t hit us, or it’ll be a couple of weeks time when we look back on it and really relish it as a very special day."

On Alex Hales' superb 171

“An incredible innings, absolutely incredible. Halesy's a very determined, very talented cricketer who we always back. He has so much to offer particularly at the top of the order.

“All his runs came at once which was great. He’s always strived for that big score and similar to his partner Jason Roy, who scored 160 at The Oval, so to pip him and score 171 was awesome."

On Jos Buttler's 22-ball 50

“A twenty-two ball 50 is absolutely incredible. He seems to hold all the records for the fastest hundreds, the fastest fifties - it sums him up, he really enjoys getting on with the game and moving it forward.

"He’s a team player - he’s not somebody who goes out there and chews up a lot of balls, he wants to win games of cricket for us."
