Royal London Women's One-Day Championship winners defeated in final fixture

Georgia Elwiss passed 50 on her return from injury

Sussex inflicted Kent’s first loss of the season, winning by 160 runs at the Spitfire Ground in Canterbury. The hosts had already wrapped up the Royal London One-Day Championship title by winning their first six matches but had no answers to Sussex’s powerful batting display.

Skipper Georgia Adams hit 65 from 62 balls, putting on 118 for the first wicket with Isabelle Collis (67), with England’s Georgia Elwiss, returning from injury, also passing 50 as Sussex wracked up 268/6, with the champions only able to muster 108 runs in response.

Hampshire couldn’t quite replicate their 2018 Championship-winning season, but saved their best all-round performance until last in thrashing Surrey by 192 runs.

Charlie Dean and Lucia Kendall both passed 50, the latter off just 38 balls. With the ball, Danielle Ransley (3 for 29) and captain Fi Morris (3 for 13) helped clean up the visitors in under 22 overs for 81.

Sonia Odedra (72) and Sarah Bryce (60) put on 155 for the first wicket for Nottinghamshire but the rest of the line-up couldn’t capitalise on the strong start, reaching 198/7.

Set a rain-revised target of 209 from 47 overs, Yorkshire reached their target from the very last ball, with captain Hollie Armitage leading from the front, hitting a run-a-ball 50 at the top of the order.

Women’s county cricket continues next weekend, with the opening fixtures of the Vitality T20 getting underway on 9 June. The top two teams from 2018, Middlesex and Sussex, face off at Mill Hill School getting underway at 10.30am.
