While a hard-nosed inspection of the end of the season - following a low finish and the departure of coach Andrew MacDonald back to Australia - would leave Leicestershire fans downhearted, there was much for onlookers to buoyed by after an early season assault saw them at one point potential promotion candidates.
Mark Cosgrove led from the front again, racking up over a thousand runs anyway possible, including the use of just a single arm on one occasion. Two new faces in Neil Dexter and Paul Horton were close to joining him in the four-figure club.
However the bowling, apart from Charlie Shreck and Clint McKay, lacked the penetrative streak needed to undo teams twice in a match. Even then, only McKay, now in his 11th season as a pro, proved a consistent menace to opposition batsmen. More will be needed from the younger members of the squad if they are to challenge for the top spot in 2017.
