Hampshire Director of Cricket, Giles White said: “Craig has been an integral part of the coaching setup for a few years now. He has experience, a great understanding of the game and is respected by everyone here at Hampshire.  For all those reasons he is the ideal person to take on this important role.”

White is hugely experienced at both domestic and International level, having made more than 600 domestic appearances for Yorkshire, whilst also representing England in 30 Test Matches and 51 ODIs.

Known for his ability as a middle-order batsman and zippy paceman, he amassed more than 20,000 runs at an average of 24.84 across an 18-year career and claimed 856 wickets at an average of just 29.53.

The all-rounder was also appointed captain of Yorkshire in 2004, helping lead his side to promotion from to Division One of the County Championship competition the following year.

Following the announcement of his retirement in 2008, White spent time away from the game before joining the Hampshire coaching staff in 2012.
