Worcestershire Cricket are set to celebrate the successes of women and girl’s cricket this year with a number of events as New Road host the England Women’s second ODI against New Zealand.
Eighty women will take part in this year’s Women’s Softball MEGA Fest on the King’s School field behind New Road, participating in multiple games and a group Zumba warm up. The festival is targeted at women aged 14 and over who have had little or no cricketing experience, playing multiple games across the day.
The county will also be celebrating the success of its new Women’s Volunteer Programme, Step Forward, with all participants invited to a VIP Day at the ground to watch the ODI. Step Forward has been a highlight of the year with 18 women completing the programme which included a support coach course, umpiring, scoring and social media workshops.
Club development officer Jess Ward said: “We also have had the opportunity to offer free tickets to all juniors across the county who are members of local cricket clubs and have taken part in Worcestershire Cricket competitions. So far, more than 200 tickets have been claimed with additional family members also attending the game.”
