    Birmingham Bears sign Grant Elliott

Former New Zealand International Grant Elliott is heading to Birmingham for #Blast17

Birmingham Bears have signed former New Zealand all-rounder Grant Elliott for the NatWest T20 Blast in 2017.

Elliott, who joins the Bears on a Kolpak deal for the full NatWest T20 Blast season, enjoyed an eight-year international career where he won more than 100 caps combined across all three formats and played a lead role in helping the BlackCaps reach the final of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

As a team mate of fellow Bear Jeetan Patel, the 38-year-old helped Wellington Firebirds to the McDonald’s SuperSmash T20 title in February and subsequently played in the Pakistan Super League for Lahore Qalandars.

“Grant has proven himself as a match-winner on the biggest stage. He top scored in the final and semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015 and he has a wealth of T20 experience"

    Ashley Giles

Ashley Giles, Sport Director at Warwickshire CCC, said: “Grant has proven himself as a match-winner on the biggest stage. He top scored in the final and semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015 and he has a wealth of T20 experience, having played in several of the world’s leading competitions.

“Securing Grant, and the earlier addition of Colin de Grandhomme, gives us the additional batting firepower that we wanted to complement a strong top order. He also gives us even more options with the ball and has good experience of English conditions.

“As a teammate of Jeetan, we know that Grant has great character and he will play an important role in developing the younger members of the squad. He will be a proud Bear and we look forward to welcoming him to Edgbaston in July.”

Birmingham Bears open the NatWest T20 Blast 2017 campaign away to local rivals Worcestershire Rapids on Friday 7 July. The Bears then return to Edgbaston on the following evening to take on last year’s semi-finalists Notts Outlaws.

Grant Elliott, said: “I’m very excited to have signed for Birmingham Bears to play in the NatWest T20 Blast.

“Edgbaston is a fantastic place to play cricket and I’m really looking forward to taking to the field as a proud Bear and hopefully contributing to more success for the club in 2017.”
