    Moises Henriques signs for Surrey

Australian Moises Henriques has signed to play for Surrey in the NatWest T20 Blast.

All-rounder Moises Henriques will join Surrey CCC as a replacement for Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara whilst he plays in the Caribbean Premier League.

Henriques (30), first represented Surrey CCC in 2015 but his time at the club was sadly cut short by an accidental on-field collision with team mate Rory Burns that saw him break his jaw and require surgery. Since his last period at the club, Henriques, who is the captain of both New South Wales and the Sydney Sixers, has developed into one of the leading T20 players in Australia.

The 2016/17 Big Bash saw him hit 263 runs, including a top score of 76* and a critical 64 in the Sixers’ semi-final win over the Brisbane Heat.

These performances earned him selection in all three of Australia’s recent T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka, where he hit 56* in the second match of the series.

Henriques also enjoyed an excellent Sheffield Shield competition during the Australian season, averaging 64.58 and hitting two centuries, including the highest individual innings of the summer, when he scored 265 against Queensland at the SCG in February.

Speaking this week, Moises Henriques said: “I’m really happy to be returning to Surrey, a great club where I really enjoyed myself in 2015.

“As well as feeling like I’ve got a bit of unfinished business, the NatWest T20 Blast is well established as one of the top T20 competitions in the world and I’m really looking forward to playing against some of the world’s best cricketers in front of sold out London crowds at the Kia Oval.”

Alec Stewart, Surrey CCC Director of Cricket, added: “It’s great to have Moises back at Surrey after his injury in 2015.

“As well as being a quality individual, he has great T20 experience from all around the world and will add plenty of balance to our side.”
