Lancashire name pavilion end after James Anderson

England bowler delighted after being honoured at Old Trafford

Lancashire have honoured James Anderson by naming an end at Old Trafford after the England bowler.

The Pavilion End of the Manchester ground will be officially renamed the James Anderson End on Friday morning ahead of the fourth Investec Test between England and South Africa.

"It’s a huge honour, especially because of the link I have with this club and the love I’ve got for this club. I’ve been here for 15 years and longer than that if you count the years I’ve been supporting the club," Anderson said.

Anderson has won the Ashes four times

"It’s just an amazing honour and hopefully my family will be here tomorrow to see it as well.

"These things usually happens when people stop playing or further down the line. To have this happen when I’m still playing and potentially bowling from that end in the game will be a bit surreal. It will be tough if I fancy bowling from the other end!"

Anderson, who turned 35 last week, has taken 480 Test wickets in his career but is eyeing more success, starting with a series win over South Africa, with England 2-1 ahead heading into the final Test at Old Trafford.

He added: "I don’t like looking back on my career too much because there are still things I want to achieve personally and with this team. But when the time is right I’m sure I will look back on my career with great fondness."

Anderson has played 125 Tests, 194 ODIs and 19 IT20s for England in addition to 511 matches for Lancashire across all formats since making his debut in 2001.
