Match in focus - Brilliant Bairstow century seals victory

England beat West Indies by seven wickets in the first ODI at Old Trafford

Jonny Bairstow scored his first ODI century as England beat West Indies by seven wickets at Old Trafford.

The Yorkshire man retained his spot as opening partner for Alex Hales and struck a wonderful 100 not out as the Three Lions comfortably chased down a target of 205 with the game reduced to 42 overs due to a wet outfield.

Bairstow was ably supported by county team-mate Joe Root (54) as the hosts backed up an impressive bowling performance as West Indies could only post 204/9, with Ben Stokes taking 3/43 including the wicket of his old foe Marlon Samuels.

The result means England lead the Royal London series 1-0 after the first of five matches, with the second fixture to be played at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

It seems a long time ago since I made my debut but when you get a chance you try and take it. We've got a serious belief that we didn't do ourselves justice in the Champions Trophy and we want to put that right going forward
