Division Two Player of the Week – Chris Read

Two county stalwarts and two quicks – but there's only one Chris Read...

As the promotion places were sorted in the last round of Division Two, four men put in stand-out performances. But Chris Read's one-man-army act not only took Nottinghamshire to Division One but also earned him the Player of the Week award.

Chris Read – 124 for Nottinghamshire v Sussex

What a way to call it a day! Chris Read has dug Nottinghamshire out of many holes and, in his final innings before calling it a day, he took them from a precarious position of 65-5, having conceded 565 to Sussex in the first innings, to safety with a magnificent 124 – his 26th first-class hundred of his career. His knock picked up the necessary bonus points and all but secured the draw to earn Notts promotion.

Daryl Mitchell – 123 for Worcestershire v Durham

The right man to cap off a fantastic season for Worcestershire. Having lost the captaincy over the winter, Mitchell has taken the freedom out to the middle. A quality summer ended with a seventh hundred against Durham, which helped set-up a victory at New Road to seal Worcestershire's promotion as champions.

Michael Hogan – 10/87 for Glamorgan v Kent

Glamorgan finished their season with a win, thanks to their rangy Australian seamer who underlined his class with a second match 10-wicket haul of his career. That was set-up by a second innings 6/43 which featured some prodigious swing.

Ben Sanderson – 8/99 for Northamptonshire v Leicestershire

Needing a win to hold their end of the bargain and hope results elsewhere went for them, Northants were able to call on the ever-reliable Ben Sanderson, who recorded figures of 8-99 in victory at Grace Road. Despite rain cutting down Northants' time to force a win, Sanderson's 5/39 bowled out Leicestershire for 128 before he returned in their second innings to take 3/50 and set-up a gettable target for his side.
