    Stokes emotional after England victory

All-rounder says it feels amazing to be back with the squad after man-of-the-match performance

New Zealand v England second ODI - Scorecard

Ben Stokes said he felt emotional walking off the pitch after scoring 63 not out to help England to victory in the second ODI against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui.

The all-rounder played in his second match since returning after five months out of the side as the Three Lions cruised to victory by six wickets to level the five-match series at 1-1.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be back amongst the team, around the lads and the backroom staff,” Stokes said.

“The time I spent at home, the amount of effort I put in, that feeling I had walking out the other night was amazing.

“I was a bit emotional tonight walking off the field today being not out. Hopefully this is a stepping stone for things to come in the future.

“It’s all about building on to the future, we have a really busy summer coming up. Hopefully this is the start of contributing towards winning games. It’s just great to be back.”

Train like England - run outs

Direct hits, throwing above the stumps and backing up - three elements England work on in training

England claimed four run-outs and took three superb catches as they bowled out the Blackcaps for 223.

The victory was completed in 37.5 overs, with Stokes supported by a knock of 62 from captain Eoin Morgan and a late unbeaten 36 from 20 balls from Jos Buttler.

Stokes called for England to replicate their performance in the field in the third ODI in Wellington on Saturday.

“This is the type of performance we want as a team and we know we can produce at a consistent level,” Stokes added.

“We came out here and our fielding performance showed that’s where we really wanted to improve. The catching, the run outs and the energy we had in the field were 10 times better than in the first game.”
