Who’s going to qualify for Kia Super League Finals Day?

Captain Nat Sciver will be looking to lead Surrey Stars to Finals Day

The group stages of the Kia Super League are into their final week and third place could still easily be occupied by any one of four teams.

Last year’s winners Western Storm have guaranteed their place at Finals Day – as have Loughborough Lightning – but with two games left to play who will join them?

Surrey Stars are perhaps the most likely team. They currently occupy third place and have a two-point advantage over Lancashire Thunder in fourth.

Kia Super League 2018

Pos Team Played P Won W Lost L Tied T N/R Net RR Points Pts
1 Loughborough Lightning Loughborough Lightning 10 7 3 0 0 +1.361 33
2 Western Storm Western Storm 10 6 3 0 1 +0.919 30
3 Surrey Stars Surrey Stars 10 5 4 0 1 -0.404 24
4 Lancashire Thunder Lancashire Thunder 10 5 5 0 0 -0.825 21
5 Yorkshire Diamonds Yorkshire Diamonds 10 3 6 0 1 -0.290 15
6 Southern Vipers Southern Vipers 10 2 7 0 1 -0.490 10

Thunder will fancy their chances of chasing the Stars down but both Yorkshire Diamonds and Southern Vipers could also realistically be there – two wins for either team would give them a very real chance.

Vipers host the Stars at Hove tomorrow in a crucial game that could go a long way to securing the Stars’ progression but the Roses clash on Wednesday will be the perfect setting for either Thunder or Diamonds to capitalise should the Stars slip up.

It leaves the very real possibility of all four teams heading into Saturday’s trio of 7pm games with a chance of making Finals Day. One of those three fixtures will be screened live on Sky Sports.

With that in mind – which players may be the deciding factors as the tournament enters its last week?

Nat Sciver (Surrey Stars)

Earlier on in the campaign the Surrey Stars skipper was carrying her side’s batting efforts – now that South African Lizelle Lee seems to have regained her form at the top of the order might she benefit from a platform from which she can push her side towards a big total?

Harmanpreet Kaur (Lancashire Thunder)

It all started so well for Harmanpreet Kaur – with a match-winning innings complete with triumphant six – but it hasn’t gone to plan since. She’s a big-game player, she’ll be desperate to go big in the Roses clash.

Katie Levick (Yorkshire Diamonds)

Not an international but the fourth-highest spinner on the wicket-taking list and one of the most economical.

The Diamonds have been adept at setting competitive scores this tournament but they’ve been less good at defending them. Get that to click and they could be on their way to Hove.

Tammy Beaumont (Southern Vipers)

The England opener has been the Vipers’ top-scorer despite missing three games through injury and with Suzie Bates and Danni Wyatt yet to hit their straps she could be key at the top.

Few in the game are better at hustling their side through to a score on a less than perfect day and Beaumont could help bustle the Vipers to successive victories.
