With 100 days to go until the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup we look back on some of our best ODI centuries on home soil from nine grounds hosting the tournament this summer!
The list includes record breaking innings, destructive power-hitting and players holding their nerve in the tightest of run chases.
England will play all over the country during the tournament with the chance to write even more white ball history at grounds old and new.
Trent Bridge
On his home ground in 2016 Alex Hales hit what was then the highest ever individual ODI score for England. Hales struck 26 boundaries in his innings of 171 which propelled his side to what is now their second highest team total in history.
Ageas Bowl
Eoin Morgan likes batting in Southampton, averaging over 67 at the Ageas Bowl, and his first ODI hundred against Australia was one to remember in 2010. Coming in at 81-3 he went on to score 103*, driving for four down the ground to win the game and bring up his century.
Kia Oval
At the time Jason Roy’s 162 from just 118 balls was the second highest score for England in ODI cricket. Roy hammered 13 fours and 3 sixes to lead the side to a six-wicket win back in 2016 as England chased down over 300 to beat Sri Lanka.
Emirates Old Trafford
Jos Buttler is renowned the world over for his immense ability to clear the ropes. His century against Australia at Old Trafford in 2018 showed another side to his game as he batted under immense pressure with the tail to see England to victory and complete a 5-0 series whitewash.
Lord’s
This one has gone down in English cricket folklore. In one of the most famous ODIs played at Lord’s, England captain Nasser Hussain brought up his century and flashed a three-finger salute to those in the press box who had questioned his ability to bat at number three. England went on to lose the match as India won a thriller by two wickets with three balls remaining back in 2002.
Emirates Riverside
Roy was in imperious one day form in 2018 and showed it once again in Durham as his century set England up to make it four wins out of four in the series against Australia.
Emerald Headingley
It became an iconic moment of the summer in 2018. Joe Root hit for four to bring up his century and win the game on his home ground against India. While the crowd roared Root pulled out the now famous ‘bat drop’ celebration!
Edgbaston
Ben Stokes’ third ODI hundred was crucial as he and captain Eoin Morgan pulled the side away from defeat at 35-3 to beat Australia at Edgbaston, winning by 40 runs in the 2017 Champions Trophy.
Sophia Gardens
Jason Roy is the only England batsman to score an ODI century in Cardiff. His 120 in Wales pushed England to 342-8 which they successfully defended to win by 38 runs.
