Jack Leach made the fifth highest score by a nightwatchman for England against Ireland

Alex Tudor an unbeaten 99 batting at number three as he helped guide England to a seven-wicket win over New Zealand in Birmingham.

2) Harold Larwood 98 v Australia, Sydney, 1933

Larwood played a key role with his 98 from 148 balls to help England to a first innings lead over Australia. England went on to win the Test by bowling Australia out for 182 in their second innings.

3) Eddie Hemmings 95 v Australia, Sydney, 1983

Hemmings saved the match for England with his determined 95 from 195 balls which enabled England to see out the final day and draw the match in Sydney.

4) Jack Russell 94 v Sri Lanka, Lord's, 1988

Russell came in at three and his 94 from 202 balls helped England to build a sizeable first innings lead as they went on to win the Test match.

5) Jack Leach 92 v Ireland, Lord's, 2019

After seeing off the final over of the day, Jack Leach resumed the next morning and was only dismissed shortly before tea.

In this time he passed fifty, made his highest first-class score and fell just 8 runs short of three figures. In the process helping England into a lead against Ireland.
