It is with much sadness that the ECB has learned of the passing of Peter Dury Snr MBE, who died last weekend following a long illness aged 84.
Peter’s pioneering work in the development of non-turf cricket, football and hockey pitches in the United Kingdom enabled greater opportunities for participation at all levels of sport and ensured his lasting legacy.
His influence spanned more than 50 years, earning a deserved MBE for his services to sport. He was employed by the TCCB and ECB in their formative years when his work was central to the establishment of standards across non-turf pitches that remain in place today.
In ‘retirement’ he remained a driving force as a consultant for many sports grounds and professional sports facilities across the UK. Cricket is indebted to Peter’s significant contributions while generations to come will benefit from his willingness to share his expertise.
The ECB sends its sincere condolences to Peter’s family.
