How does the Bob Willis Trophy point system work?

Winning teams will score 16 points, with bonus points also on offer in each team's first innings.

With the County Championship on a one-year hiatus, the 18 First Class counties will be battling it out for the Bob Willis Trophy this summer as competitive domestic cricket returns on 1 August.

The Bob Willis Trophy will see the counties split into three regional groups – North, Central and South – with the two best group winners due to play a five-day final.

The points system remains broadly the same as that used for the County Championship, with the only change being for matches that end in a draw.

The number of points on offer for a draw will be eight – an increase from the five points in the County Championship. This change has been made to help mitigate against the impact of weather in a shortened competition.

All other points scoring will be the same as in the County Championship, as detailed below.

Point system

Win – 16 points

Draw or tie – 8 points

Loss – 0 points

Bonus points

As with the County Championship, bonus points in the Bob Willis Trophy will be awarded in the first 110 overs of each team’s first innings and are retained regardless the result of the match.
