There’s no better sight in cricket for a bowler than seeing stumps go flying! Getting a batter out by bowling them is the ultimate reward for the fielding side and we saw plenty of stumps flying in The Hundred 2021. Take a look back at some of those moments where the flashing wickets lit up and the batters were forced to walk away from the crease!
On just the third day of the competition, London Spirit took on Birmingham Phoenix in a tight encounter. Just 23 balls in, Shafali Verma was at the crease and was looking like her free-scoring self. But Freya Davies had different ideas and when she came on for a bowl, she made sure that the young batter could not add more to her team’s total.
Mohammad Amir had conceded 12 runs in the previous deliveries with a few wides and no balls, but he made sure he finished the spell in style. He sent the powerful Finn Allen’s leg stump cartwheeling out of the ground. Such a satisfying wicket!
When you’re bowling second, wickets are crucial. And when there’s a batter in the middle as dangerous as Hollie Armitage, wickets are even more important. Piepa Cleary was there to get the job done for the Welsh Fire and she got the Northern Superchargers batter all tangled up. A brilliant delivery!
Adam Milne finished joint top wicket-taker in the Men’s Competition in 2021 and with a bowling ability like this, it’s obvious why. Devon Conway emerged as a dangerous batter before The Hundred, so removing him from the crease was crucial. Milne made sure he took care of that in style.
Marizanne Kapp is known to be one of the most dangerous bowlers in the Women’s game. She took the first and final wickets of the 2021 competition and was a menace throughout the year. She bowled Chloe Tryon and sent her stumps sprawling all over the place with a wonderful ball!
Tymal Mills has recently shown his bowling ability on the international stage, but for those who watched The Hundred, his talent was already known. This 87mph ball destroyed Joe Clarke’s stumps. Just take a look!
Freya Davies may be a dangerous bowler herself, but that doesn’t mean she can avoid being on the end of a special delivery. Here she is being bowled by Oval Invincibles star Tash Farrant. She finished top wicket-taker in the Women’s Competition and it’s clear why!
Wahab Riaz may have only played one match at The Hundred, but in that fixture against Welsh Fire, he showed his class. He took four wickets, including this spectacular dismissal of Luke Fletcher.
The Oval Invincibles seemed to have a theme in 2021 and that was that their bowlers loved taking wickets. Perhaps the most satisfying of the lot was this from Shabnim Ismail. We don’t think many words are needed for this one, but watch leg stump go flying!
Middle stump flying! That’s what Lockie Ferguson did to Mohammad Nabi when Manchester Originals took on London Spirit. Take a look at this pin-point accuracy from the Originals quick bowler.
