Hampshire fast bowler Reece Topley will be unable to join England Cricket’s Pace Programme in South Africa this month because of a shoulder problem.
The 22-year-old left-armer, who was a member of England’s World T20 squad last spring, was added to the Programme to step up his rehabilitation after missing almost all of the 2016 season with hand and back injuries.
But he has continued to be troubled by a problem in his left shoulder, especially when throwing, and is to have surgery this week.
Hampshire's Director of Cricket Giles White said: “Reece is a determined character and although it is disappointing news for him, we're very hopeful that he'll be fit and raring to go in time for the new season.”
