England Women U19 exit World Cup at semi-final

India Women U19 prove too strong in ICC Women's U19 World Cup semi-final.

ICC Women’s U19 World Cup Semi-Final: India Women U19 117-1 beat England Women U19 113-8 by nine wickets

England Women U19's journey at the ICC Women's U19 World Cup came to an end at the semi-final stage, as they were beaten by nine wickets by India.

Batting first, England were in a good position at just over the halfway mark of their innings, 81-2, with Warwickshire's Davina Perrin looking good on 45.

But Perrin was the first of eight wickets to fall for 11 runs, undone by India's spinners, Parunika Sisodia and Vaishnavi Sharma taking three wickets apiece.

Amu Surenkumar and Tilly Corteen-Coleman came together for a ninth-wicket partnership of 21 to give Abi Norgrove's side something to defend, but India proved far too strong - reaching the target comfortably for the loss of just one wicket.

It signalled England's first defeat of the competition in Malaysia and confirmed their exit at the semi-final stage. India will play South Africa in Sunday's final.

Head Coach Chris Guest said: “It wasn’t to be today. We got ourselves into a good position with the bat but they fought back and we didn’t adapt well enough to post an imposing total.

"Obviously we are disappointed and we’d have loved to go all the way, but cricket at this level is not solely about winning or losing. It’s about what the players learn and how they develop - and this has been a fantastic trip for this group. I’m proud of their effort and I know this will stand them in great stead as young players moving forward in their career.”

Captain Abi Norgrove said: “We’ve learned so much on this trip and it’s been a fantastic experience. India deserved the win today, but we gave it everything we had. It’s a competition we’ve learned a lot from and I know all the girls will take something away from this tour.

"Huge best of luck to India and to South Africa, the U19 World Cup is a special competition and either team will be worthy winners.”
