Joe Root will play his first ODI for England Men since 2023 on Thursday, having been named in the starting XI for the first game in the 50-over series against India.
England's leading Test run-scorer will add to his 171 ODIs in Nagpur with an eye on securing his place in the side for the upcoming ICC Men's Champions Trophy, starting later this month.
Root also adds another spin-bowling option for captain Jos Buttler, alongside front-line spinner Adil Rashid. Pace bowlers Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood will lead the attack.
