Toby Roland-Jones will make his Test debut when England take on South Africa at the Oval on Thursday.
England captain Joe Root confirmed on Wednesday that the Middlesex seamer will replace Mark Wood, who misses out due to a heel injury.
Roland-Jones, 29, has taken 22 wickets in the Specsavers County Championship during this campaign and made his one-day international debut against South Africa in May.
Steven Finn, his Middlesex team-mate, has been called up to the squad as standby for the third Test, with the series currently level at 1-1.
"Woody is not 100% fit so he’s going to miss out, with Toby coming in. We are not in a position to name the 11 at the moment because we haven’t had a chance to look at the pitch," Root said.
"Toby has been a consistent performer for a long period of time now for Middlesex. He’s been banging on the door and it’s great for him to get his opportunity."
Essex batsman Tom Westley will also make his Test debut and will bat at No.3 having been called up to replace Gary Ballance, who suffered a broken index finger in the second Test at Trent Bridge.
