Hello, my name is Briony.
I am a member of Oldswinford Cricket Club where I have the privilege of supporting and coordinating our SEND/Disability cricket provision. We are an ECB Disability Champion Club and are very proud of our inclusive cricket provision.
We started the group nearly 14 years ago when it became apparent there weren’t any opportunities locally for my son, who has learning disabilities, to play cricket.
This group keeps growing and developing with the support of Oldswinford CC (OCC), Worcestershire Cricket Foundation, our superb families/carers and most importantly the young people who attend shining so brightly both individually and as a group. It makes my heart sing when I’m with these wonderful people.
Cricket has been important to me personally all of my life. My Dad played (he now coaches the SEND team and Umpires for OCC Women’s teams…in his 80th year) my Grandpa played professionally. But why did it take until I turned 52 to play myself?!
Cricket was not an option at school because I was a girl….
I now play soft ball pairs at OCC. My health and well being have massively benefitted. I absolutely love being part of the Team and feel valued and included.
Two other Mum’s from our SEND group are now also playing for OCC Women’s team and I hope that my enthusiasm and encouragement has played a small part in that.
I became a Grandma to twin granddaughters in April and I’m excited to introduce them to the sport of cricket and the many opportunities it brings on and off the field.
Let’s be part of making a difference for women and girls opportunities in cricket. Shaping the future by being present, curious, ambitious and championing our lived experiences.
