My love of cricket was formed from the black and white test matches being on the TV on what felt like every day of the school summer holidays.
Both my dad and brother were keen cricket fans, and my dad was a seam bowler who played for the factory team at Sterling Metals in Attleborough, Nuneaton. He was offered a trial for Warwickshire in the 1950s but lacked the confidence to see it through.
At Warwickshire County Cricket Club, we believe that Edgbaston is for Everyone. I hope that these days he would experience a different journey and would recognise the work that has been done to open up pathways and to encourage access for all who love cricket and want to get involved in whatever way they wish.
I joined the Club in 2021, initially as a co-opted Board Director. Having carried out a skills audit, the Club was looking for individuals who had People and Culture experience and luckily, I fitted the bill. I have recently been appointed as Board Chair and have the honour and privilege of leading this ambitious and inspiring club.
Being one of the few female County Cricket Club Chairs, I did consider initially whether this role was going to be for me, but I knew I had the capability to do it and wanted to be an inspiration to other women facing similar decisions and not least to my two daughters. I think my dad would be proud that we made it in the end!
My message: Don’t rule yourself out of anything, always give it a go!
