England need 10 wickets on the final day to complete a stunning turnaround in the Second Investec Test at Headingley.
Beginning the day just two runs ahead and three wickets down, England were dealt a severe blow when Joe Root was caught out midway through the morning session.
But Ben Stokes and Dawid Malan hit contrasting fifties followed by 84 from Moeen Ali and an unbeaten 61 from Chris Woakes meant England could declare 321 runs ahead.
Moment of the morning
The game was on a knife-edge midway through the morning session when England lost Root. High up on his toes, he could only angle a rising delivery from Shannon Gabriel to Kyle Hope who juggled before clinging on. That wicket left the hosts effectively 43/4.
Play of the afternoon
Stokes thrashed an entertaining half-century and Malan a more sedate one as England moved 188 ahead at tea. However, both fell in quick succession followed by Jonny Bairstow meaning the game was in the balance at the interval.
Story of the evening
Ali bashed 84 off 93 balls and Woakes a measured 61 not out as England hammered 133 off just 28 overs after tea. Their 117-run stand wrested control away from the tourists who had to drag themselves off the field when Root declared.

Stat of the day
England's 490/8 is the highest ever Test total without a century scored.
Player of the day
The game was still in the balance when Ali walked to the crease - England were six down with a lead of 143. Playing in his typically languid and stylish way, his seemingly effortless 84 means England will be favourites when play resumes on Tuesday.
