Overton struggling to be fit for Boxing Day Ashes Test

Somerset bowler battled through the pain in Perth after sustaining hairline fracture in Adelaide

Craig Overton conceded he might miss the Boxing Day Ashes Test in Melbourne due to a hairline fracture of the rib.

The Somerset bowled was hit by a Pat Cummins bouncer during his Test debut in Adelaide and aggravated the injury during the defeat in Perth.

"Melbourne might be a push but it's still an option to play at the minute," he told BBC Sport.

Overton has impressed in his two outings so far, taking six wickets including Australian run-machine Steve Smith and top-scoring with an unbeaten 41 in the first innings in Adelaide.

"I'm starting to grow into the side and it's disappointing with my rib."

"I'm starting to grow into the side and it's disappointing with my rib but I still feel I've got the confidence that I can perform at this level," said the 23-year-old who added that England are determined to fight back.

"We're still fighting to get that result and show everybody what we can do out here.

"It's tough, obviously they're a good side in their home conditions and their bowlers are suited to playing out here with the pace they've got. We need to find a little bit more in our side and score a few more runs and take a few more wickets."
