Somerset off-spinner Dominic Bess has been called into the England Lions squad for the four-day section of their West Indies tour.
Bess, who had already been selected for the three-match one-day series against West Indies A in March, replaces the Worcestershire seamer Josh Tongue, who is to see a consultant next week after aggravating an ankle problem during the Lions’ training camp in Australia before Christmas.
The Lions will hold a training camp at the Desert Springs Resort in Spain from 20-25 January ahead of their departure on 31 January for Jamaica, where they will play a three-day warm-up match at Sabina Park ahead of four-day matches at Trelawny and Sabina Park, before switching to Antigua for the third four-day match against West Indies A followed by the one-day series.
Tom Helm, the Middlesex seamer who has also been selected for the one-day series in West Indies but was not considered for the four-day section because of a hamstring problem that troubled him throughout the Australia camp, is to join the Pace Programme for the next month training in Loughborough.
Essex’s Jamie Porter will continue training with the Pace Programme ahead of the Lions’ camp in Desert Springs.
