5.3.6 Safeguarding training

Safeguarding Training

The ECB are committed to ensuring our staff and volunteers have appropriate safeguarding training.

If you are working with under-18s you must undergo safeguarding training. This page provides information on the various courses/training available.

All ECB safeguarding courses are cricket-focused and child-centred. They are relevant, engaging and designed to help learners act appropriately and with confidence.

Safeguarding Young Cricketers Course

The Safeguarding Young Cricketers Course (SYC) is a free online safeguarding course created by the ECB, involving the completion of a multiple-choice assessment.

Candidates will need to register onto the course, at which point they will receive a link by email to the online e-learning module along with their logon information.

Please contact your local County board to book this course.

Please note that this course is available to coaches undertaking ECB approved training courses, those renewing their existing safeguarding qualification and to Club Safeguarding Officers.

Training for Club Safeguarding Officers

Club Safeguarding Officers are vital members of the club and key to making an environment safe, welcoming and friendly for children to enjoy the game of cricket.

Club Safeguarding Officers need to attend two sets of initial training:

  • Safeguarding Young Cricketers Course (online)
  • ‘Safe Hands' workshop which is run by the local County Cricket Board

We are currently also still accepting Safeguarding and Protecting Children courses run by UK Coaching.

Every three years, the three requirements above must be updated.

To enquire about upcoming Safe Hands Workshops please contact your local County Cricket Board.
