Woakes has won many games for England with the ball but has proven himself as a genuine international all-rounder with many crucial knocks with the bat.
In one of the most thrilling games of 2016 his 95* was pivotal as England recovered from 82-6 to eventually tie with Sri Lanka at Trent Bridge.
Although Liam Plunkett stole the headlines by hitting the final ball for six, Woakes' innings had made the close chase possible and highlighted his importance down the order.
The final over in Kolkata
Woakes' bowling at the death has been a huge asset to captain Eoin Morgan and his team. This ability was best shown under the greatest of pressures in Kolkata.
With India needing 16 to win off the final over backed by a roaring crowd, Woakes held his nerve. Despite being hit for two early boundaries, he responded with three dot balls and a wicket to secure the win.
Five-for once more
By the end of 2014 Woakes already had two ODI five-wicket hauls to his name. He would have to wait over four years for his next.
Since the 2015 World Cup he had taken four wickets on seven occasions but another five-for eluded him until the fifth Royal London ODI with Pakistan in May 2019.
These wickets were a timely reminder to everyone of his skills as we headed into the Cricket World Cup.
