An England Women A team will take on West Indies ahead of the visitors’ Royal London ODI series against Heather Knight’s senior team.
The matches – both at Loughborough, on Saturday and Monday respectively – will give England coach Mark Robinson the chance to look at some of his fringe players, as well as allowing him to run the rule over some of the next generation of talent.
Surrey’s Bryony Smith, who has been in fine form across the Royal London Women’s One-Day Cup, will feature in both games, as will Sophia Dunkley, Alice Davidson-Richards and Hampshire’s Maia Bouchier.
There will be chances as well for the likes of Mady Villiers, Kirstie Gordon and Freya Davies – while some more established England players will get a run-out before the beginning of the Royal London ODI series at Fischer County Ground, Grace Road, Leicester.
England assistant coach Gareth Breese said: “We’re always looking for more competitive cricket and for opportunities to expose our players to good tests.
“A lot of the players playing for us are yet to play international cricket and these matches will give them an idea of the standard.
“It’s deliberately not an Academy side, more our second-best group of players mixed in with some who will feature in the Royal London ODI series.
“It’s a great opportunity for everyone on show and hopefully they can use that opportunity to kick their game on and impress.”
Both matches are due to start at 11am at the Loughborough National Cricket Performance Centre with entry free.
