Five of the funniest moments from round one of the Bob Willis Trophy

Domestic cricket is back, and so are the comedy moments.

Round one of the Bob Willis Trophy is in the bag and there were some incredible scenes across the nine games, with big wins for Leicestershire and Derbyshire, big hundreds for Nick Gubbins and Ben Slater, and big wickets for Ollie Robinson and the Overton brothers.

But among the golden moments of skill there were some more comedic moments that were thankfully caught on the live-stream cameras. Here are five of our favourites.

1. Nick Gubbins makes a hash of a reverse sweep

Nick Gubbins made headlines for all the right reasons for 407 balls during Middlesex's excellent win over London rivals Surrey, scoring 252 runs in the match. It will be the 408th ball that will unfortunately remain in the memories for longer than his sublime first-innings knock of 192. Having reached 60 in the second innings Gubbins attempted a reverse sweep that went horribly, horribly wrong.

2. Jordan Thompson walks for before being given out LBW

You don't need to hang around for the umpire to raise the finger when you're this plumb... Jordan Thompson was halfway back to the pavilion before the finger went up, with bowler Ben Raine slightly concerned that the wicket wouldn't actually be given.

3. Tim Bresnan gets one in the family jewels

Tim Bresnan's first knock of the season - and his first for new county Warwickshire - was largely excellent. The punchy all-rounder hit an excellent century with the Bears struggling at 141/5 when he reached the crease, but his lusty blows with the willow may be overshadowed by the lusty blow he took in the most painful place of all. While getting hit in the nuts isn't much of a laughing matter for the batsman, bowler Nathan Buck enjoyed a chuckle before walking back to his mark, while the 'keeper and slips all empathised with Bresnan with a wince and an involuntary hand movement to cover their own groins.

4. Keith Barker's celebrappeal

Hampshire's Keith Barker has clearly been to the Stuart Broad school of celebrappealing.

5. Ben Curran floors himself with his own shot

The momentary euphoria of middling a drive instantly disappears when you realise you've smashed it into your own ankle. Northamptonshire's Ben Curran succumbed to this fate in his side's draw with Warwickshire and went down spectacularly.
