  • Cook 25%
  • Chanderpaul 21%
  • Borthwick 7%

The contenders:

Ben Coad - Yorkshire
10 wickets in win over Warwickshire

Having only played in one County Championship game before this summer, Yorkshire’s young seamer Ben Coad has enjoyed a remarkable start to the season. He bettered last week’s five-wicket haul by taking 10 wickets across two five-fors in the White Rose’s crushing win over Warwickshire. That takes his tally for the season to 18 wickets at a startling average of 11.77.

Alastair Cook - Essex
52 & 110 in win over Somerset

It was no surprise to see England’s highest-ever Test run scorer shine with the bat in his first competitive match since resigning as England captain. Alastair Cook reached a half-century in the first innings and followed up with a match-winning knock of 110 in the second, as newly promoted Essex secured their first Division One victory of the season.

Scott Borthwick - Surrey
108* from 250 balls to earn draw v Lancashire

New Surrey batsman Scott Borthwick led the resistance alongside Kumar Sangakkara (136) as the hosts held off Lancashire on Day Four to secure a draw. Borthwick’s innings was a gritty one, his unbeaten 108 coming from 250 balls. The former Durham man toiled for more than five hours at the crease en route to his maiden Surrey century.

Shiv Chanderpaul - Lancashire
182 runs in draw with Surrey

An evergreen performance from Lancashire’s veteran batsman, as Shivnarine Chanderpaul belied his 42 years to reach 182 and help the Red Rose fight back in the first innings. Coming to the crease with the visitors in trouble at 44-3, Chanderpaul was eventually the last man out - after an eight-hour vigil - as Lancashire finished on 470.
