Cricket Discipline Commission announces Essex County Cricket Club sanctions

The independent Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) has today published its sanctions decision in relation to Essex County Cricket Club.

Essex County Cricket Club has admitted a charge in breach of Directive 3.3, in relation to the systemic use of racist and/or discriminatory language and/or conduct during the period between 2001 and 2010 which Essex failed to address, after which the CDC Panel held a sanctions hearing.

The CDC Panel has today cautioned, reprimanded and fined Essex County Cricket Club a total of £100,000.

The Panel’s sanctions against Essex County Cricket Club are:

  • Caution as to future conduct;
  • Reprimand, and
  • A total fine of £100,000, of which £50,000 of which is to be suspended for a period of 2 years.

Should any party wish to appeal, they will have 14 days to do so from the date on which the decision is handed down, namely by 2 October 2024.

The CDC sanctions decision have been made by an independent panel consisting of Nigel Popplewell (Chair of the Disciplinary Panel), Professor Seema Patel and Mark Milliken-Smith KC.
