Australia Men's VI 337-5 beat England Men's VI 292-7 by 45 runs
England Men's Visually Impaired team fell 46 runs short of their target in the first ODI of their multi-format Visually Impaired Ashes series on Sunday.
A dominating performance from Australia's batters saw the side reach an imposing total of 337-5 from their 40 overs at the Chris Wills Oval.
Aussie opener Steffan Nero reached an impressive 126 from 86 balls but top scorer of the day, Stephen Palmer, stole the show with his 130 not out.
The impenetrable partnership between Nero and Palmer piled on more than 200 runs, evading England's bowling attack comfortably.
It was Mohamed-Abraar Gafar Khatri (2-75) who struck to break up the duo thanks to a brilliant catch from team-mate Nathan Jameson in the field.
Despite a strong start from England's openers, Matthew Dean (62) and Luke Sugg (43), the team were unable to build a partnership beyond 125, making 337 a tough target.
Matthew Page brought a ray of hope from no.5 as he racked up a brilliant 75 from 49, but he ultimately ran out of time, the innings coming to a close with England 46 runs short of the target.
The second ODI starts at midnight GMT on Monday November 18, with a live-stream available from Cricket Australia.
