England Women A tour of Australia: Hosts win opening 50-over match

England Women A were beaten in their opening 50-over match against Australia A, losing by five wickets at Cricket Central, Sydney.

After a rain affected T20 series, which sww England victorious in the opener and no results in the following two matches due to wet weather, the two sides started their three match 50-over series on Wednesday.

Opener Georgia Voll scored 137 and starred for the hosts.

England won the toss and elected to bat. Grace Scrivens and captain Hollie Armitage both hit 43 with Seren Smale (27) and  Alice Capsey (24) contributing as their side finished on 214-9.

In reply, Voll put the hosts in control with scores from Charlie Knott (33) and Jess Flintoff (29).

England’s Mady Villiers took three wickets including that of Knott. Australia ended on 214-5 inside 41 overs.

The sides meet again at the same venue on Friday (4 April).
