Top tips: All Stars Cricket bowl-a-goal

Easy tips to take All Stars Cricket from your centre to home.

All Stars Cricket’s eight-week programme is all about delivering jam-packed fun, activity and skills development but did you know you can continue the fun at home, in the park, or even on holiday?

In the second of our top tips series, here’s a bowling game that will guarantee big moments in the garden for you, your little star and the whole family. You could even revisit our additional bowling games afterwards – below – to make the most of your family (or friends!) time.

    Week six - bowling

    Bowling – bowl-a-goal

Bowl-a-goal is a great game designed to help with your body movements and bowling action, particularly in keeping a straight arm when delivering the ball.

Just like our catching star skills, you need minimal equipment to get up and running, namely a ball and couple of cones to create goals. If you don't have cones to hand, jumpers or flower pots will do the job perfectly.

    Setting a target

Using two of the above objects set up your goal so that you have a target to bowl at. You and your child will then take turns bowling and wicketkeeping – try bowling six balls in a row and then swap over to ensure your little star gets to both bowl and practise keeping wicket.

Award yourselves points every time one of you bowls the ball through the goal.

Use your own All Stars ball or try a bigger one to encourage straight arms.

This game can be as easy or challenging as you like; for example, increasing or decreasing the bowling distance will impact the level of difficulty, as will adjusting the goal (target) size.

Remember, even though you are working in pairs, the whole family can still get involved by forming their own pairs!
