Top tips: All Stars Cricket star skills

Easy games to take All Stars Cricket from your centre to home.

There is much more to All Stars Cricket than just what happens in your weekly sessions. Did you know you can take all of the great activities from your centre each week and make them part of play time at home as well?

You’ve got your garden games to keep you busy, of course, and here's another option to get you, your little All Star and the rest of the family moving – and improving your skills!

    Week one - catching

    Catching – star skills

This particular game is a brilliant means to get the whole body moving in different ways and improve how you watch and catch the ball.

You can play this anywhere – at home, in the park, on holiday – and the only equipment you need is a ball each for each player. Your son or daughter’s special All Stars Cricket ball is perfect for this. Remember, you can get the whole family involved in this one.

    Follow the leader

Nominate one person to act as leader. Everyone takes their ball and follows the leader, repeating their movements.

Keep the ball moving around your body – pass it around your head, waist, knees, ankles, etc.

You can make it as easy or difficult as you like. Try a figure of eight around both knees, switching the ball from one hand to the other.

If you and your little stars are feeling adventurous, why not move on to a yo-yo? This consists of dropping the ball and catching it before it hits the ground. A great one for the reflexes!

Don’t stop there – you can throw it up in the air and catch it, add a clap before catching, or bounce it and catch (same hand or alternating).

Or get creative and invent your own variation. You can even create a competition, for example, a prize for the family member who claps and catches the ball the most times in a row!

Everyone in the family is guaranteed to have a smile on their face by the end of your game, and improve their catching skills into the bargain.

If you’re feeling full of energy after all that, carry on your catching practice using the garden games in the above video.

    Have fun!
